The effect of 10 at.% Al addition on the hydrogen storage properties of the Ti0.33V0.33Nb0.33 multi-principal element alloy

Nayely Pineda-Romero et al.

Summary: We conducted a thorough study on the effect of adding 10% Al into the Ti0.33V0.33Nb0.33 alloy on the hydrogen storage properties. The results showed that while the storage capacity decreased by 20%, several other properties were enhanced by the presence of Al, such as lower hydrogen desorption temperature and improved stability during cycling. This study demonstrates that adding Al into multi-principal element alloys is a promising strategy for designing novel materials for hydrogen storage.

The average and local structure of TiVCrNbDx (x=0, 2.2, 8) from total scattering and neutron spectroscopy

Magnus M. Nygard et al.

Summary: The study investigated the local structure in TiVCrNbDx to explore how to destabilize the remaining sites with respect to hydrogen/deuterium occupation. The analysis revealed a body-centred tetragonal structure for partially desorbed deuteride (x = 2.2), with a higher portion of occupied sites with low valence-electron concentration. Further strategies for destabilization of the hydride were motivated based on these observations.

Thermodynamic modelling of hydrogen-multicomponent alloy systems: Calculating pressure-composition-temperature diagrams

Guilherme Zepon et al.

Summary: The study utilized a thermodynamic model to calculate the PCT diagrams of body-centered multicomponent alloys for designing alloys with optimized properties for different hydrogen storage applications. Experimental data and DFT calculations demonstrated the accuracy and reliability of the model in predicting the behavior of various alloys in hydrogen storage.

Effects of the Chromium Content in (TiVNb)100-xCrx Body-Centered Cubic High Entropy Alloys Designed for Hydrogen Storage Applications

Renato Belli Strozi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the addition of a non-hydride forming element in the multicomponent Ti-V-Nb-M system using the CALPHAD approach. Cr was selected as the fourth alloying element, and (TiVNb)(100-x)Cr-x alloys were synthesized and found to absorb hydrogen at room temperature without activation treatment. Increasing the Cr content in the alloys resulted in higher equilibrium pressures, indicating tunable hydrogen storage properties could be achieved.
