Machine learning assisted high-throughput screening of transition metal single atom based superb hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts

Summary: This study highlights a new perspective for the rational design of transition metal single-atom catalysts (SACs) using density functional theory (DFT) and machine learning (ML) approaches. By embedding single atoms of 3d/4d/5d transition metals in different substrates, the electronic properties of 364 catalysts were tuned. Machine learning analysis identified stable and high-performance catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) based on various descriptors. The study provides a fundamental understanding for the efficient rational design of TM-SACs for H-2 production through water-splitting.

Prospects of MXenes in energy storage applications

Implementation of Transition Metal Phosphides as Pt-Free Catalysts for PEM Water Electrolysis

Summary: This work investigates the electrocatalytic properties of Transition Metal Phosphides (TMP) catalysts supported on Carbon Black (CB) for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) as an alternative to Platinum Group Metals (PGM). The study demonstrates that 50% FeP/CB exhibits a catalytic performance comparable to Pt catalyst. This work provides a proper approach to further research on replacing the currently used PGM in PEMWE.

RuCo Alloy Nanoparticles Embedded into N-Doped Carbon for High Efficiency Hydrogen Evolution Electrocatalyst

Summary: In this study, a novel hybrid catalyst composed of RuCo alloy nanoparticles and N-doped carbon was successfully synthesized through the regulation of the electronic structure of ruthenium using cobalt and the protection of alloy nanoparticles using a carbon matrix. The optimal catalyst exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity in both acidic and alkaline media, and showed good stability, providing new insights for the development of high efficiency hydrogen evolution catalysts.

Summary: A general increase in greenhouse gas emissions caused by population growth and the demand for clean energy and industrial outputs has led to a rise in environmental concerns. Countries worldwide, both advanced and emerging, are searching for fossil fuel and petroleum resources to support various sectors such as aviation, electric utilities, and consumer processing. However, there is a growing tendency to address these challenging concerns and prioritize the goals set out in the Paris Agreement by utilizing emerging technological advances in clean energy. Hydrogen is expected to play a crucial role in future energy development and manufacturing processes, and this paper provides an overview of recent advancements in hydrogen technologies, including fuel refining, hydrocarbon processing, materials manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, aircraft construction, and electronics. It also discusses potential innovations in terms of scientific advancements, green raw materials production, exploration opportunities, and renewable resource integration. Additionally, this article explores the socioeconomic implications of hydrogen as a green resource.

Hydrogen evolution on Au/GC and PdAu/GC nanostructures in acid solution: AFM, XPS, and electrochemical study

The electronic interaction between Au and Ir on partially oxidized surfaces likely plays a key role in improving catalytic performance.

Hydrogen Evolution on Reduced Graphene Oxide-Supported PdAu Nanoparticles

Corrosion studies in different solutions demonstrated the formation of a few microns thick layer of nanostructured molybdenum oxides. MoS2/Co9S8/MoC heterostructure connected by carbon nanotubes as electrocatalyst for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction

Summary: A simple strategy was designed to build a MoS2/Co9S8/MoC@CNT-N (MCM@CNT-N) heterostructure with a large number of interfaces, showing high efficiency and stable electrocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution. The introduction of Co and N atoms and the formation of carbon nanotubes contributed to the excellent activity of the catalyst. This work provides a new approach to build efficient and low-cost electrocatalysts for electrochemical reactions.

Surface enrichment of iridium on IrCo alloys for boosting hydrogen production

Modulation of Cu and Rh single-atoms and nanoparticles for high-performance hydrogen evolution activity in acidic media

Summary: A new hybrid catalyst comprising Cu and Rh elements as bimetallic single atoms and nanoparticles on a N-doped graphene surface was reported for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in acidic media. The catalyst showed a low overpotential, high current density, and maintained stable performance during a 500-hour continuous HER electrolysis test. Additionally, it exhibited high turnover frequency and mass activity, as well as a constant H-2 production rate with high faradaic efficiency.
