Transforming heat transfer with thermal metamaterials and devices

Ying Li et al.

Summary: This review provides a unified perspective on heat transfer control, summarizing complementary paradigms towards the manipulation of physical parameters at different length scales. Thermal conduction and radiation are emphasized in the first two parts, while the third part discusses efforts to actively introduce heat sources or tune material parameters with multiphysical effects.

Single-valley state in a two-dimensional antiferromagnetic lattice

Xilong Xu et al.

Summary: The study introduces the concept of a single-valley state in a two-dimensional antiferromagnetic lattice, predicting its existence in single-layer BiFeO3 through tight-binding model analysis and first-principles calculations. This enriches the physics of two-dimensional valleytronics and offers a promising avenue to observe strong valley-polarized phenomena.

Electroluminescence and thermal radiation from metallic armchair carbon nanotubes with defects

Zu-Quan Zhang et al.

Summary: This theoretical study explores the bias-induced light emission and thermal radiation properties of metallic armchair carbon nanotubes with defects. It is found that defects enhance electroluminescence while reducing thermal radiation, with the diameter of the CNTs also affecting the radiation effects.

Near-field thermal transport between two identical twisted bilayer graphene sheets separated by a vacuum gap

Fuwei Yang et al.

Summary: Active control of heat flow is important in thermal management and energy conversion. The study focuses on thermal radiation between twisted bilayer graphene (TBLG), showing that near-field heat flow can vary significantly with twist angle, chemical potential, and temperature. The findings suggest potential for manipulating radiative heat flow through surface plasmons in TBLG.

Dynamical polarizability of graphene with spatial dispersion

Tao Zhu et al.

Summary: In this work, different theoretical approaches were used to analyze the electronic polarizability of graphene. It was found that the tight-binding method is as effective as the ab initio approach in calculating the polarizability of graphene. The special Dirac-cone band structure of graphene allows the Dirac model to reproduce results of the tight-binding method for energy smaller than 3 eV.
