Ceria-Incorporated Activated Carbon Composite as Electrode Material for Capacitive Deionization

Nasser Zouli

Summary: In this research, CeO2 nanoparticles were incorporated into activated carbon (AC) and applied in the hydrothermal treatment process to improve the electrochemical and electrosorption activity of AC, resolving the capacitance and hydrophobicity limitations. The best-performing AC electrode material was 5 wt.% CeO2@AC, achieving a specific capacitance of 262 Fg(-1) and electrosorption capacity of 8.9 mg g(-1) in the desalination test.

Designed assembly of Ni/MAX (Ti3AlC2) and porous graphene-based asymmetric electrodes for capacitive deionization of multivalent ions

G. Bharath et al.

Summary: This study investigates the removal of toxic fluoride and heavy metal ions from wastewater using asymmetric capacitive deionization (CDI) electrodes. By utilizing tailored nanoarchitecture, high electrosorption capacity was achieved for monovalent F-, divalent Pb2+, and trivalent As(III) ions, demonstrating successful application in real industrial wastewater and contaminated groundwater treatment. The fabricated Ni/MAX//pRGO electrode shows excellent electrochemical properties for the removal of anionic and cationic metal ions in aqueous solutions.
