Single-step Synthesis and Characterization of Zr-MOF onto Wool Fabric: Preparation of Antibacterial Wound Dressing with High Absorption Capacity

Reihane Rezaee et al.

Summary: Enhancing the effectiveness of curative herbal extracts through novel drug delivery systems is a current research focus. Zr-MOF was synthesized into wool fabric, resulting in improved wash durability and increased absorption capacity. After loading SO and CO extracts, the fabrics exhibited 100% antibacterial activity, with differences in biocompatibility with human skin.

The Roles of the Ubiquitin-Proteasome System in the Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Pathway

Junyan Qu et al.

Summary: The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is crucial for protein synthesis and metabolism in eukaryotic cells. When unfolded proteins exceed the ER's folding capacity due to environmental influences or increased protein synthesis, cells activate the endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER stress) response. The components of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS), E3 ubiquitin ligases and deubiquitinases (DUBs), are closely related to ER stress.

Engineering subtilisin proteases that specifically degrade active RAS

Yingwei Chen et al.

Summary: Chen et al. describe a rational design of subtilisin mutants that degrade active RAS by cleaving a conserved sequence in switch 2. They further modified the active site to be dependent on a cofactor to generate high target specificity. Proteases engineered to cleave this region degraded RAS in vitro and in cells with a promise of adaptability for other target proteins too.

Suppression of β-catenin signaling in colon carcinoma cells by a bacterial protein

Aftab Nadeem et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with APC gene mutations playing a key role in tumor development. The novel cytotoxin MakA induces apoptosis in cancer cells, with potent cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines while sparing nontransformed cells. MakA inhibits beta-catenin-mediated tumor cell proliferation, making it a promising candidate for therapeutic development against colon cancer.
