Coordination with zirconium: A facile approach to improve the mechanical properties and thermostability of gelatin hydrogel

Fan Zheng et al.

Summary: By immersing gelatin hydrogels in a Zr4+ solution, the mechanical property and thermostability of the hydrogels were improved. The treatment reduced the micropores in the hydrogel, increased the elastic modulus and compressive strength, and allowed the hydrogel to withstand high temperatures. This non-toxic method shows promise for the fabrication of gelatin related materials.

Effect of pH and pH-Shifting on Lignin-Protein Interaction and Properties of Lignin-Protein Polymers

Sarocha Pradyawong et al.

Summary: This study focuses on lignin modification and lignin-protein interactions to improve the strength and water resistance of protein films. pH changes and pH-shifting were used to modify lignin, resulting in smaller particle sizes, changes in thermal properties, and cross-linking of protein and lignin. Multiple-point interactions between lignin and protein led to the formation of a stronger lignin-protein network, contributing to the development of green lignin-protein products.

Summary: A pH-sensitive composite hyaluronic acid/gelatin hydrogel drug delivery system containing carboxymethyl chitosan microspheres loaded with CUR was fabricated for the treatment of IBD. In vitro studies showed good sustained release properties, with a drug release rate of 65% over 50 hours. In vivo pharmacokinetic experiments demonstrated that high levels of CUR were maintained in colon tissue for over 24 hours, exhibiting anti-inflammatory effects and inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines secretion. The formulation group of CUR@gels showed the best therapeutic effect on colitis in mice, indicating the potential of the composite gel delivery system for effective CUR delivery in colitis treatment.
