High temperature tribological performance of molybdenum reinforced zirconia toughened alumina composites prepared by pressure-less sintering

Kunal Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the tribological performances of Mo reinforced ZTA ceramics at elevated temperatures. The results show that composites with 15 wt % Mo - ZTA and 10 wt % Mo - ZTA exhibit the lowest friction coefficient and specific wear rate at 750 degrees C, most likely due to the formation of molybdenum-oxide-rich lubricating tribo-films on the worn surface.

Enhancement of Dry Sliding Tribological Characteristics of Perforated Zirconia Toughened Alumina Ceramic Composite Filled With Nano MoS2 in High Vacuum

Kunal Ghosh et al.

Summary: Zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA)-MoS2 self-lubricating ceramic composites were fabricated using innovative method including nano MoS2 and graphite additives. The composite showed improved tribological characteristics with the best specimen containing 10 wt% graphite. The dominating wear mechanism during wear tests was found to be delamination in ZTA-MoS2 composites.

Performance evaluation of self lubricating CuO added ZTA ceramic inserts in dry turning application

Bipin Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: Zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA) ceramic inserts infused with CuO solid lubricant were prepared using Hot Press technique. The addition of CuO resulted in improved fracture toughness and anti-friction properties during dry machining, leading to less flank wear and stable lubricating film formation. The cutting inserts exhibited brittle failure after 25 min of machining, with cracks initiating inside the matrix without plastic deformation.
