Laminar flow and pressure loss in planar Tee joints: Numerical simulations and flow analysis

Gustavo A. Patino-Jaramillo et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical investigation of the laminar flow and pressure drop characteristics of planar Tee joints. The study provides valuable data for the thermal-hydraulic design of oil-immersed power transformer windings. The analysis reveals different flow patterns and pressure distributions for various mass split ratios and width ratios between the straight duct and side branch.

Thermal analysis of 8.5 MVA disk-type power transformer cooled by biodegradable ester oil working in ONAN mode by using advanced EMAG-CFD-CFD coupling

Michal Stebel et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical study comparing the temperature changes when using conventional mineral oil and rapeseed ester oil to cool a power transformer. The results show that the use of ester oil leads to higher coil temperatures and increased temperatures in the high voltage windings. Therefore, modifications to the oil duct construction in the high voltage region are needed for transformers cooled using mineral oil in cold climate conditions.

Laminar flow and pressure loss in planar Tee joints: Pressure loss coefficients

Gustavo A. Patino-Jaramillo et al.

Summary: This paper presents new correlations for the pressure loss coefficients in two-dimensional Tee joints and 90 sharp elbows as a function of geometric and hydrodynamic parameters. The correlations take into account the Reynolds number, width ratio, and mass split ratio. The findings suggest that the width ratio has a significant influence on static pressure losses. The new correlations are expected to provide better estimates for thermal-hydraulic modeling in oil-immersed power transformer windings.

Thermal analysis of 8.5 MVA disk-type power transformer cooled by biodegradable ester oil working in ONAN mode by using advanced EMAG-CFD-CFD coupling

Michal Stebel et al.

Summary: Power transformers transfer electricity from power plants to the grid for industrial and individual use. The heat generated by power losses is traditionally dissipated using harmful mineral oils, but environmentally-friendly natural ester oils are a promising alternative. A numerical study comparing mineral oil and rapeseed ester oil cooling in power transformers showed higher winding temperatures with ester oil, especially in hot and moderate climate zones.

Thermal/hydraulic characteristics of a rectangular channel with inline/ staggered perforated baffles

Mohamed A. El Habet et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of using baffle turbulators on the thermal/hydraulic characteristics of a baffled rectangular channel through experiments and numerical simulations. The results show that the proposed baffle configurations significantly enhance heat transfer efficiency, with the inline arrangement leading to higher friction losses.

Parametric study and optimization of a full-scale converter transformer winding

Youbo Tan et al.

Summary: The oil inlet/outlet position and block washer number significantly impact the disc temperature of the winding. Placing the oil inlet near the outside wall reduces the number of overheated discs by 50% compared to the conventional design. Setting block washers reduces the maximum and mean temperature rises of the winding and improves the comprehensive performance. The optimal design includes placing the oil inlet near the outside wall, having 3 block washers, and using an oil mass flow rate of 2mo, resulting in temperature reductions and improved comprehensive performance.

Analysis and multi-response optimization of two dew point cooler configurations using the desirability function approach

A. F. Boudjabi et al.

Summary: This research compares the thermal performance and water consumption of two dew point cooler configurations in different climatic conditions in Algeria, finding that the combined parallel-regenerative cooler performs better in drier climates. Optimal operating parameters are identified, and suitable dew point technology for various climates and cities is recommended based on the study's findings.
