Biobased rigid polyurethane foam using gradient acid precipitated lignin from the black liquor: Revealing the relationship between lignin structural features and polyurethane performances

Hui Cao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the characteristics of bio-sourced synthesized RPF using lignin fractionated from the alkaline black liquor of corn stover. Results show that lignin isolated in a specific pH range can improve the compressive strength, thermal stability, and reduce density and thermal conductivity of RPF. The research also explores the relationship between lignin structural features and RPF properties.

Highly-toughened PVA/nanocellulose hydrogels with anti-oxidative and antibacterial properties triggered by lignin-Ag nanoparticles

Weijun Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, Ag nanoparticles were reduced on lignin nanoparticles (LNPAg) surface without a catalyst and then incorporated into glutaraldehyde crosslinked PVA hydrogels with cellulose nanocrystals (CNC). The resulting composite hydrogels showed excellent radical scavenging and antibacterial activities, with LNPAg nanoparticles enhancing wound healing in mice model of skin resection. These findings suggest that PVA hydrogels containing LNPAg could serve as efficient biomedical wound dressing materials.
