Synthesis and regulation mechanism of bio-oil-glucose phenolic resin using furfural as cross-linking agent

Yanyan Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, bio-oil-formaldehyde-glucose (BFG) resins were prepared using furfural as a cross-linking agent, and the effect of glucose content and furfural loading time on the performance of BFG resins was studied. The results showed that BFG resins have potential application prospects in the field of wood adhesives.

Quaternization-butyrylation to improve the viscosity stability, adhesion to fibers, film properties and desizability of starch for warp sizing

Wei Li et al.

Summary: The influence of quaternization and butyrylation on the sizing properties of biological starch macromolecule was evaluated. The results showed that the modified starch, known as quaternized-butyrylated starch (QBS), exhibited improved bonding strength, elongation, paste stability, and desizing efficiency compared to acid-thinned starch (ATS) and quaternized starch (QS).

Structural and Thermal Properties of Starch Plasticized with Glycerol/Urea Mixture

Magdalena Paluch et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of plasticizing systems on the structural and thermal properties of thermoplastic starch (TPS), finding that the use of urea as a plasticizer improves the efficiency of the plasticization process compared to glycerol alone. Additionally, XRD analysis confirms the beneficial effect of urea on inhibiting the starch retrogradation process.

Preparation of a starch-based adhesive cross-linked with furfural, furfuryl alcohol and epoxy resin

Jun Zhang et al.

Summary: The renewable starch-furanic adhesive developed using furfural and furfuryl alcohol from agriculture as crosslinkers showed good water resistance and bonding performance. Analysis indicated that the adhesive had longer gel time, better dry shear strength, and enhanced water resistance when cross-linked with 9% epoxy resin compared to traditional adhesives.

Preparation and characterization of novel cellular/nonporous foam structures derived from tannin furanic resin

Jinxing Li et al.

Summary: A recent study developed a foam material based on tannin furanic resin with superior properties, formed by mixing tannin preconcentrate with furfuryl alcohol in the presence of catalyst, surfactant, and solvent to create a distinct cellular/nonporous structure. The material displayed a distinguished bilayer structure with improved mechanical strength, fire resistance, and thermal insulation compared to traditional tannin foams.

Synergistic effects of catalytic co-pyrolysis of corn cob and HDPE waste mixtures using weight average global process model

Jia Xin Liew et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the synergistic effects and kinetic parameters for binary mixtures of corn cob and HDPE in co-pyrolysis with the presence of renewable chicken and duck eggshell catalyst using thermogravimetric analysis. The results indicate the existence of synergistic effects during the pyrolysis process, with activation energy values reflecting the presence of catalytic pyrolysis. The study also utilizes artificial neural network and joint optimization modelling to validate and optimize the results from the TGA.
