Selective synthesis of glyceryl monolaurate intensified by boric acid based deep eutectic solvent

Zilong Shen et al.

Summary: In this work, a boric acid-based deep eutectic solvent (DES) was successfully employed to intensify the synthesis of glyceryl monolaurate (GML). The DES formed by equimolar TPAB and boric acid exhibited the lowest freezing point and good thermal stability, promoting the selective esterification process. Under optimal conditions, the GML selectivity reached 85.7% and the yield was 76.4%.

Boron-Based Lewis Pairs Catalyzed Living, Regioselective, and Topology-Controlled Polymerization of (E, E)-Alkyl Sorbates

Wuchao Zhao et al.

Summary: Realizing living and controlled polymerization of renewable monomers using boron-based Lewis pairs remains a great challenge. In this study, strong nucleophilic N-heterocyclic olefins (NHOs) or N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) as Lewis bases, and boron-based compounds as Lewis acids were used to construct LPs for polymerization of alkyl sorbates. The results show that specific combinations of B(C6F5)(3) with appropriate acidity and steric hindrance, along with strong nucleophilic NHOs, promote living and controlled polymerization of alkyl sorbates, leading to polymers with predicted molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution.

Esterification of acetic acid in the presence of sulfated clinoptilolite: a model study of upgrading of pyrolysis bio-oil

Halit L. Hosgun

Summary: This study investigated the esterification reaction of acetic acid with n-propyl alcohol on sulfated zeolite catalyst to enhance the bio-oil production from pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass. Results showed that zeolites treated with sulfuric acid maintained their crystal structures, reduced surface areas, and changed SiO2/Al2O3 ratios. Samples modified with sulfuric acid exhibited higher efficiency in the esterification reaction compared to unmodified zeolite. Increasing sulfuric acid concentration and temperature during modification process led to higher conversion of acetic acid in the esterification reaction.

Summary: In this study, the cross metathesis of estragole and methyl sorbate was investigated to produce methyl 6-(4-methoxyphenyl)hexa-2,4-dienoate with good conversion and selectivity using ruthenium-based metathesis catalysts at low catalyst loadings as 50 ppm (0.005 mol%) and minimal solvent. This demonstrates the importance of catalyst selection and reaction conditions in achieving the desired product conversion and selectivity.
