Supertough, Ultrastrong, and Transparent Poly(lactic acid) via Directly Hot Pressing under Cyclic Compressing-Releasing

Zhao-Xia Huang et al.

Summary: By utilizing a novel compressing-releasing process, supertough, ultrastrong, and transparent PLA was fabricated directly via hot pressing. The PLA obtained exhibited superior tensile strength and strain at break, as well as enhanced heat resistance, surpassing conventionally processed PLA. The mechanism of CCR-induced gt-to-gg conformational transition was investigated, demonstrating a new avenue for controlling polymer conformational transitions under mild processing conditions.

Importance of Low-Temperature Melt-Mixing on the Construction of Stereocomplex Crystallites with Superior Nucleation Efficiency in Asymmetric Poly(L-lactide)/Poly(D-lactide) Blends

Ju Yao et al.

Summary: In asymmetric poly(L-lactide)/poly(D-lactide) blends, achieving high-efficient formation of finely dispersed stereocomplex crystallites can be challenging due to competition between stereocomplexation and chain mixing. Pre-mixing PLLA and PDLA chains can lead to decreased formation efficiency of SC particles, despite smaller particle size. Direct mixing at lower temperatures is more effective for constructing SCs with superior nucleation efficiency, compared to common melt-processing conditions.
