Insight into the photoexcitation effect on the catalytic activation of H2 and C-H bonds on TiO2(110) surface

Min Zhou et al.

Summary: Semiconductor photocatalysis shows promise in breaking inert chemical bonds, but the atomic-level mechanism of photoexcitation-induced modulation is still not well understood. This study compares the activation of H2 on rutile TiO2(110) under thermal and photo-catalytic conditions, and finds that photoexcitation promotes homolytic cleavage and activation of H2 and C-H bonds, except for C(sp(1))-H in alkynes, which is inhibited. These findings provide insights into photocatalytic bond activation over semiconductor catalysts.

Photo-enhanced dry reforming of methane over Pt-Au/P25 composite catalyst by coupling plasmonic effect

Zhen-Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a Pt-Au/P25 photo-thermal catalyst to improve the catalytic performance of methane dry reforming (DRM) reaction by extending the light response range. It is found that light irradiation significantly enhances the catalytic performance of the reaction, and HCOO* plays a critical role in the reaction.

Ultrasonic-assisted oxidation of cellulose to oxalic acid over gold nanoparticles supported on iron-oxide

Prince Nana Amaniampong et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated a base-free strategy for the selective oxidation of microcrystalline cellulose to oxalic acid using low frequency ultrasound and Au/Fe2O3 catalyst. The combination of low frequency ultrasound and catalyst led to enhanced catalytic oxidation of cellulose particles, resulting in a significant yield of oxalic acid. Density functional theory and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the charge transfer from Au nanoparticles to Fe2O3, forming active catalytic species for cellulose oxidation.

Unraveling the origin of extraordinary lean NOx reduction by CO over Ir-Ru bimetallic catalyst at low temperature

Young-Woo You et al.

Summary: The Ir-Ru/Al2O3 catalyst shows excellent activity in reducing NOx by CO at low temperature in excess oxygen. The formation of Ir-Ru alloy phases on alumina was found to accelerate reaction steps required for NOx reduction by CO. The effective dissociation of NO and reutilization by the facile CO-O reaction on the bimetallic site are believed to be the primary causes for the excellent deNOx activity of Ir-Ru/Al2O3 under lean exhaust conditions.

Structure and mechanistic relevance of Ni2+-NO adduct in model HC SCR reaction over NiZSM-5 catalyst - Insights from standard and correlation EPR and IR spectroscopic studies corroborated by molecular modeling

Piotr Pietrzyk et al.

Summary: The mechanistic aspects of model selective catalytic reduction of NO with C2H4 over Ni/ZSM-5 zeolite were investigated using advanced correlation EPR/HYSCORE and IR time-resolved Rapid-Scan 2D COS techniques combined with DFT/CASSCF calculations. The study identified two active centers, bare isolated Ni2+ and dual oxo Ni2+-O-2-Ni2+, which play different roles in the reaction mechanism, leading to selective catalytic reduction of NOx.

Ceria morphology-dependent Pd-CeO2 interaction and catalysis in CO2 hydrogenation into formate

Liping Fan et al.

Summary: Pd catalysts supported on CeO2 with different morphologies showed morphology-dependent interaction, with the Pd/p-CeO2 catalyst exhibiting the best performance due to the highest content of metallic Pd species. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of oxide morphology engineering in developing efficient Pd-based catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation.
