Ten-Year Trends in Patient Characteristics, Treatments, and Outcomes in Myocardial Infarction From National Cardiovascular Data Registry Chest Pain-MI Registry

Sanjay Gandhi et al.

Summary: This study tracked the characteristics, management, and clinical outcomes of acute myocardial infarction patients in the United States over the past 10 years. The results showed that patient risk factors changed modestly during this period, but treatment improved, with a significant decrease in risk-adjusted mortality rates for NSTEMI patients.

Differential effects of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in human coronary artery endothelial cells

Michael J. Haas et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of COX-2 inhibitors on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and found that selective COX-2 inhibitors, except rofecoxib, can suppress ER stress. This may explain the unfavorable cardiovascular outcomes associated with rofecoxib.

Oxidation of Protein Kinase A Regulatory Subunit PKARIα Protects Against Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury by Inhibiting Lysosomal-Triggered Calcium Release

Jillian N. Simon et al.

Summary: The study revealed that PKARI alpha disulfide formation is significantly increased in response to I/R in both humans and mice, leading to enhanced AKAP binding and preferential localization to the lysosome. This redox-dependent regulation of lysosomal channels by PKARI alpha plays a critical role in protecting the heart from extensive injury and could serve as a novel target for cardioprotective therapeutics.

Strategies to Overcome the Barrier of Ischemic Microenvironment in Cell Therapy of Cardiovascular Disease

Rouven Berndt et al.

Summary: Transplantation of different immune cell types is a promising approach for treating ischemic cardiovascular diseases like myocardial infarction and peripheral arterial disease. However, the ischemic microenvironment can affect cell homeostasis and limit the effectiveness of these advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs). Various clinical and experimental strategies are being developed to overcome these obstacles in treating ischemic cardiovascular diseases.

Chronic metformin treatment decreases cardiac injury during ischemia-reperfusion by attenuating endoplasmic reticulum stress with improved mitochondrial function

Myeloid-derived growth factor regulates neutrophil motility in interstitial tissue damage

Ruth A. Houseright et al.

Summary: MYDGF, induced by tissue damage, regulates neutrophil motility to damaged tissues through the HIF-1α pathway. Depletion of MYDGF impairs wound healing and inflammation resolution, while persistent neutrophil inflammation in MYDGF mutants is dependent on HIF-1α pathway.
