Towards Ubiquitous Positioning by Leveraging Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface

Haobo Zhang et al.

Summary: The proposed RSS-based positioning scheme utilizes reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) to modify reflection coefficients and improve the differentiation between RSS values of adjacent locations for enhanced positioning accuracy. To address the challenge of selecting suitable reflection coefficients, an RIS-aided positioning problem is formulated and an iterative algorithm is designed. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is validated through simulations.

RECONFIGURABLE HOLOGRAPHIC SURFACES FOR FUTURE WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS

Ruoqi Deng et al.

Summary: Future wireless communications aim to build a ubiquitous intelligent information network with high data rates using cost-effective devices. The reconfigurable holographic surface (RHS), composed of metamaterial radiation elements, is being developed as a promising solution for this vision, leveraging the tunability and programmability of metamaterials. The RHS, working on the holographic principle to generate beams in desired directions, differs from the widely used reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) which serve as passive relays with reflection characteristics.

A wireless communication scheme based on space- and frequency-division multiplexing using digital metasurfaces

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: Digitally programmable metasurfaces can be used for wireless communication to implement both space- and frequency-division multiplexing, encoding messages through multiple channels to transmit directly to different users at different locations simultaneously without the need for digital-to-analogue conversion and mixing processes. Using a dual-channel wireless communication system based on a two-bit space-time-coding digital metasurface, two different pictures were transmitted to two users simultaneously in real time.
