Energy Function Based Finite Control Set Predictive Control Strategy for Single-Phase Split Source Inverters

Naki Guler et al.

Summary: This article introduces energy-function based model predictive control (EF-MPC) for single-phase split source inverters. Unlike conventional MPC methods, the proposed EF-MPC is designed with consideration of the inverter's stability. According to Lyapunov's direct method, the stability of the inverter can be ensured by maintaining a negative derivative of the energy function. The cost function in EF-MPC is designed based on the energy function, which includes errors in dc- and ac-side inductor currents. The coefficient used in the energy function formulation is shown to be redundant, eliminating the need for a weighting factor in the multiobjective cost function. The proposed EF-MPC also suppresses the amplitude of low-frequency components in the dc-side inductor current.

A Novel Boost Cascaded Multilevel Inverter

Sze Sing Lee et al.

Summary: This article introduces a novel cascaded multilevel inverter that can generate a five-level voltage with merely a single dc source by utilizing two H-bridges, two inductors, and two power switches. The proposed topology outperforms the traditional cascaded H-bridge (CHB) in terms of reducing the isolated dc source count, enhancing the voltage gain, and lowering the dc source voltage magnitude. Additionally, the proposed topology can be extended by cascading multiple modules while maintaining modularity.

Single-Stage Active Split-Source Inverter With High DC-Link Voltage Utilization

Changqing Yin et al.

Summary: The split-source inverter (SSI) has advantages in compact structure, continuous input voltage, and input current, but faces the issue of low dc-link voltage utilization. To address this, an active SSI (ASSI) was proposed, featuring more control degrees of freedom by replacing clamping diodes with reverse-blocking switches and a tailored modulation scheme. Theoretical analyses and simulation results demonstrated higher efficiency and dc-link voltage utilization ratio for the proposed ASSI compared to traditional SSI, which was further confirmed experimentally.
