Stability and Current Sharing in YBCO Cables - Impact of Broken Elements - FEM Modeling

Milan Majoros et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the current distribution and stability of high current superconducting cables in high field superconducting magnets. Finite element modeling is used to simulate tape-stack and CORC cables with broken elements of different sizes and intensities located at various positions in the coils. The results show that the stability of CORC cables can be controlled by modifying the size and thermal conductivity of their cores.

Electrical Contact Resistance in REBCO Stacks and Cables With Modified Surfaces

S. Xue et al.

Summary: Rare-earth barium copper oxide (REBCO) coated conductors are important materials for high performance cables and magnets. The control of current sharing between conductors is a critical challenge. The study found that surface modification techniques can reduce the inter-strand contact resistance and enhance current sharing.
