Target delivery of drug carriers in mice kidney glomeruli via renal artery. Balance between efficiency and safety

Ekaterina S. Prikhozhdenko et al.

Summary: Targeting drug delivery systems are crucial in reducing therapy side effects. In this study, 3 μm fluorescent capsules based on poly-L-arginine and dextran sulfate were found to effectively target the kidney via renal artery injection in mice. The safe dose of microcapsules was determined to provide high retention in the renal cortex glomeruli without causing irreversible blood flow and tissue damage.

A dose-escalating toxicology study of the candidate biologic ELP-VEGF

Jamarius P. Waller et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that ELP-VEGF does not induce toxicity within therapeutic dosing range, but high doses may cause hypotension, increased GFR, and reduced renal microvascular density. In a mouse model of breast cancer, ELP-VEGF therapy leads to a significant increase in tumor vascularity, highlighting the need for caution in patients with kidney disease and known or suspected malignancy.

General sites of nanoparticle biodistribution as a novel opportunity for nanomedicine

Daniel Fleischmann et al.

Summary: The development of nanomedical devices has resulted in clinically applied nanotherapeutics, but the translation of nanoparticle concepts into marketable systems has faced challenges due to high off-target deposition. The focus should shift towards analyzing the general sites of nanoparticle deposition in vivo to harness accumulation in organs for site-related pathologies, offering a novel opportunity for the development of more promising nanotherapeutic devices.
