Sex Differences in Ablation Strategy, Lesion Sets, and Complications of Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation: An Analysis From the GWTG-AFIB Registry

Fahd N. Yunus et al.

Summary: Women with nonparoxysmal AF were more likely to receive adjunctive lesion sets compared with men during AF ablation procedures. However, the association between patient sex and complications from ablation was not statistically significant after multivariable analysis. This suggests a need for further research to clarify optimal ablation strategies by sex.

Cryoballoon Ablation as Initial Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation

Oussama M. Wazni et al.

Summary: In this multicenter trial, cryoballoon ablation as initial therapy was found to be superior to drug therapy in preventing atrial arrhythmia recurrence in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Serious procedure-related adverse events were uncommon.

Cryoablation or Drug Therapy for Initial Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation

Jason G. Andrade et al.

Summary: In patients with symptomatic, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, catheter cryoballoon ablation was associated with a significantly lower rate of atrial fibrillation recurrence compared to antiarrhythmic drug therapy. The ablation group also had better outcomes in terms of atrial tachyarrhythmia occurrence and atrial fibrillation burden.

Association Between Sex and Treatment Outcomes of Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Versus Drug Therapy Results From the CABANA Trial

Andrea M. Russo et al.

Summary: In the CABANA trial, there were no clinically relevant treatment-related strategy differences in primary and secondary clinical outcomes between men and women, and no sex differences in adverse events were observed. The results support catheter ablation as an effective treatment strategy for both sexes.
