Large-Scale Crustal Deformation, Slip-Rate Variation, and Strain Distribution Along the Kunlun Fault (Tibet) From Sentinel-1 InSAR Observations (2015-2020)

Dezheng Zhao et al.

Summary: This study conducted large-scale geodetic measurements of crustal deformation in the north-central Tibetan Plateau using GPS velocities and InSAR observations. The results reveal the motion variations during interseismic and postseismic periods, as well as the distribution of slip rate and locking depth along the fault. The fast slip and high locking depth in the unruptured segments in the east have the potential to generate large and damaging earthquakes in the region.

Interseismic slip rate and locking along the Maqin?Maqu Segment of the East Kunlun Fault, Northern Tibetan Plateau, based on Sentinel-1 images

Liangyu Zhu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the slip rate along the Maqin-Maqu segment of the East Kunlun Fault decreases gradually from west to east, identifying high seismic risk asperities in the area. It suggests that the deformation of the Bayan Har Block can be explained with a nonrigid passive bookshelf model.

Slip rate deficit and earthquake potential on shallow megathrusts

Eric O. Lindsey et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new method to infer the slip rate deficit of offshore megathrusts, providing better understanding of seismic slip behavior. It reveals that the shallow fault generally has a slip rate deficit between 80% and 100% of the plate convergence rate when locked patches are present. This finding suggests a potentially higher global tsunami hazard than currently recognized.

Partial Coupling and Earthquake Potential Along the Xianshuihe Fault, China

Yuexin Li et al.

Summary: This study provides detailed insights into the left-lateral Xianshuihe Fault and its creeping activity using InSAR technology and velocity maps. Multiple creeping sections with high variability in creep rates are observed along the fault. The research further refines the seismic potential and stress-driven afterslip model of the observed accelerated creep, providing valuable constraints on the distribution of locked and creeping patches along this fault section.
