Development of CO2/H2O activated biochar derived from pine pyrolysis: application in methylene blue adsorption

Shasha Liu et al.

Summary: The study showed that activated biochar prepared using CO2 activation had better adsorption capacity for methylene blue, mainly by enhancing the adsorption capacity through the interaction of surface oxygen-containing functional groups with the π-π interaction of aromatic rings.

Co-pyrolysis of coke bottle wastes with cellulose, lignin and sawdust: Impacts of the mixed feedstock on char properties

Chao Li et al.

Summary: The co-pyrolysis of coke bottle with biomass sawdust, cellulose, and lignin at 700 degrees C resulted in enhanced cross-polymerization of volatiles, leading to decreased gas formation and increased char and oil production. The interactions of volatiles also affected the chemical composition and thermal stability of the resulting char significantly.

A Promising Solution for Food Waste: Preparing Activated Carbons for Phenol Removal from Water Streams

Lei Yu et al.

Summary: This study explored the potential of utilizing food waste as a renewable resource to produce activated carbon for phenol removal. The activated carbon derived from food waste showed promising phenol adsorption capacity, with a high surface area of 745 m(2) g(-1). Different adsorption models were applied to interpret the adsorption process, and the Langmuir isotherm model was found to be the best fit for describing phenol adsorption on these activated carbons.

Co-hydrothermal carbonization of swine and chicken manure: Influence of cross-interaction on hydrochar and liquid characteristics

Qingyin Li et al.

Summary: The co-hydrothermal carbonization of swine and chicken manures enhances the formation of solid products with improved properties such as increased carbon and nitrogen contents, heating value, and energy yield. The combustion properties of the resulting hydrochar are also enhanced due to the mutual effect of HTC intermediates, impacting the transfer of nitrogenous species and generation of organic acids and polymers.
