The effects of char and potassium on the fast pyrolysis behaviors of biomass in an infrared-heating condition

Haodong Zhu et al.

Summary: During the solar pyrolysis of biomass, the heat transfer is restricted, leading to the exploration of co-pyrolysis reaction behaviors of biomass and char, and secondary pyrolysis reactions of biomass. The effects of char and potassium on fast pyrolysis products distribution are discussed, showing that high temperature favors volatile release and higher heating rate promotes decomposition of bio-oils into gaseous products. Char enhances secondary pyrolysis reactions while potassium increases reactivity of biomass pyrolysis.

Gasification of municipal solid waste blends with biomass for energy production and resources recovery: Current status, hybrid technologies and innovative prospects

Zeeshan Hameed et al.

Summary: This paper critically reviews the current status of utilizing municipal solid waste and biomass blends for energy and resource recovery, and identifies opportunities for future development. Among various thermochemical conversion techniques, gasification is considered a promising technology for sustainable waste management system, reducing pollution and maximizing energy and materials recovery. The properties of municipal solid waste and biomass differ, but both have the potential to produce value-added products through gasification, leading to reduced toxic elements and harmful gases in the environment.

Investigation of biomass alkali release in a dual circulating fluidized bed chemical looping combustion system

Ivan Gogolev et al.

Summary: Chemical looping combustion (CLC) of biomass is a promising technology for power generation with integrated carbon capture, but the alkali content of biomass may lead to bed agglomeration and oxygen carrier absorption issues. Studies have shown that gas-phase alkali emissions in CLC operation can be up to 15 times higher than in OCAC operation, mainly due to steam accelerating the decomposition of alkali compounds in the biomass.
