Enhanced environment friendly surfactant production by the glycerolysis of castor oil using amino acid ionic liquid as a catalyst

Yaping Lv et al.

Summary: Novel and green amino acid ionic liquids (AAILs) were developed as eco-friendly catalysts for the glycerolysis of castor oil, leading to the production of green castor oil-based monoacylglycerol (MAG). Among the tested AAILs, [Ch][Arg] exhibited the best catalysis performance with high selectivity and yield for MAG formation. The kinetic analysis of the glycerolysis revealed an activation energy of 59.7 kJ/mol and an average reaction order of 1.69.

Characterisation and utilization of heterogeneous catalyst from waste rice-straw for biodiesel conversion

Omprakash Sahu

Summary: Global demand for fuel is increasing, leading to higher utilization of fossil fuels and decreased stocks. The development of unconventional fuels, such as biodiesel, is essential due to the large amount of toxic gases emitted and the high risks associated with non-renewable fuels. A study focused on utilizing waste rice straw to create a heterogeneous alkaline catalyst for biodiesel conversion, achieving up to 93.7% conversion efficiency. This research highlights the potential for utilizing waste biomass and waste-free fatty acid materials in industrial applications.
