Advanced diffusion methods for H2O in salt hydrates

Koen Heijmans et al.

Summary: Through simulation and analysis of the diffusion behavior of water in crystalline CaCl2.2H(2)O, it was found that crystal imperfections such as cracks and pores can significantly enhance the diffusion performance of salt hydrates, thereby improving their characteristics for thermochemical heat storage applications.

Molecular simulation study of oil-water two-phase fluid transport in shale inorganic nanopores

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: The presence of water bridges in calcite nanopores can enhance oil flow and provide theoretical support for shale oil exploration. Decreasing water content leads to a transition from slug flow to laminar flow, resulting in a significant decrease in total volume flux. Liquid-liquid slip effects between water and oil layers positively impact oil flow in calcite nanopores.

Connecting theory and simulation with experiment for the study of diffusion in nanoporous solids

Brandon C. Bukowski et al.

Summary: Nanoporous solids are essential for chemical, energy, and environmental processes, with a variety of materials such as crystalline microporous zeotypes, metal-organic frameworks, and mesoporous and hierarchically structured materials playing crucial roles. Molecular simulation techniques combined with experimental measurements have been successful in studying diffusion processes within nanoporous solids. Future developments and experimental techniques are needed for more accurate predictions in complex systems.

On the conversion of the confined ideal gas distribution between the canonical and the grand canonical ensembles

Andre F. Goncalves et al.

Summary: This short communication explores the analytical solution for the single-particle density of a confined ideal gas within the grand canonical ensemble, derived from its correlate within the canonical ensemble without using Density Functional Theory. It further demonstrates that both distributions are equal at the same thermodynamic state when framing the adsorption phenomenon as a phase equilibrium problem.

Monte Carlo Molecular Simulation Study of Carbon Dioxide Sequestration into Dry and Wet Calcite Pores Containing Methane

Srikanth Ravipati et al.

Summary: The study uses GCMC simulations to investigate carbon dioxide adsorption in a calcite slit pore. Different environments (empty pore, pore with methane, pore with methane and trace amounts of water) are considered to examine the impact of these fluids on carbon dioxide adsorption. Water shows the highest affinity to the surface, followed by carbon dioxide and methane.

CO2 Solubility in Aqueous Electrolyte Solutions Confined in Calcite Nanopores

Azeezat Ali et al.

Summary: Geological carbon sequestration in deep saline aquifers is crucial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but the solubility of CO2 in water is affected by various factors. Research indicates that the solubility of CO2 is lower in calcite pores and decreases as the pores narrow. Simulation results also suggest that the presence of ions influences the solubility of CO2 in confined water.

The effect of vacancy defects on the adsorption of methane on calcite 104 surface

G. R. Berdiyorov et al.

Summary: Density functional theory calculations were used to study the impact of vacancy defects on the adsorption properties of methane molecules on different calcite surfaces. The results show that vacancy defects increase the adsorption capacity and create energy barriers for methane migration on the surface of calcite, with a more pronounced effect observed in the case of Ca vacancy defect.

Effects of surface contamination on the interfacial properties of CO2/water/calcite systems

Tran Thi Bao Le et al.

Summary: Understanding the wetting properties of reservoir rocks is crucial for advanced applications like CO2 storage, but not all mechanisms are well understood. This study found that adding ethanol can decrease CO2-water interfacial tension significantly and increase the contact angle between water, calcite, and CO2.
