Research biases create overrepresented poster children of marine invasion ecology

Hannah V. Watkins et al.

Summary: Only 39% of nonnative animals listed in the World Register of Introduced Marine Species appeared in the peer-reviewed English literature, and fewer than half of them were the subject of more than one study. There is currently little focus on the consequences of marine introductions, with only 9.9% of studies quantifying the impact of nonnative species.

Summary: Perspectives of European and white males have dominated fisheries science and management in the USA, leading to bias against native fishes and overfishing. Existing native fish policies are not only unacceptable but also violate the public trust doctrine.
