Infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus-like particle (IHHNV-VLP) induces peroxiredoxin expression and activity in Fenneropenaeus merguiensis

Wattana Weerachatyanukul et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the immune-stimulating effect of infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus like particle (IHHNV-VLP) in Fenneropenaeus merguiensis and identified the antioxidative gene, peroxiredoxin (FmPrx), as a key gene that is up-regulated after VLP injection. The up-regulation of FmPrx enhances the level of immune-related genes and peroxidase activity, thereby improving the shrimp's immune system.

Protector effect of beta-glucans from shrimp pond-related yeasts in Penaeus vannamei rearing under white spot syndrome virus presence

Norma A. Ochoa-Alvarez et al.

Summary: This study found that glucans extracted from marine yeasts have a protective effect on Penaeus vannamei reared in the presence of the white spot syndrome virus. Debaryomyces hansenii was identified as an excellent source of pure glucans. The positive control group without glucans showed higher survival rates, while shrimp groups fed with glucans from marine yeasts exhibited significant protection.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria and gut microbiome communities associated with wild-caught shrimp from the United States versus imported farm-raised retail shrimp

Laxmi Sharma et al.

Summary: In the United States, the majority of the shrimp market is occupied by farm-raised shrimp, which are susceptible to infections and require antibiotics, leading to antibiotic-resistant bacteria. A study found a high prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in commercially available raw and cooked shrimp, with higher resistance in cooked samples. This calls for a change in processing to mitigate the risk of antibiotic-resistant strains in cooked shrimp.

Cultivation and biomass production of the diatom Thalassiosira weissflogii as a live feed for white-leg shrimp in hatcheries and commercial farms in Vietnam

Luu Thi Tam et al.

Summary: The study showed that Thalassiosira weissflogii has the potential to be used as live feed for white-leg shrimp farming in Vietnam, leading to improved growth and survival rates of the shrimp. Adding T. weissflogii to the diet of white-leg shrimp larvae significantly increased their body length, weight, and survival percentage.

The influence of dietary β-1,3-glucan on growth performance, feed utilization, antioxidative and immune status of Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei

Bingying Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that an appropriate level of beta-1,3-glucan can improve the growth performance and feed utilization of Pacific white shrimp, as well as enhance their antioxidative capacity. The optimal supplemental level was around 0.156 g kg^(-1) based on weight gain in the results.
