Air Plasma Functionalization of Electrospun Nanofibers for Skin Tissue Engineering

Abolfazl Mozaffari et al.

Summary: In this study, tannic acid-crosslinked gelatin nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning and treated with atmospheric air plasma to enhance their bio-functionality. The results showed that atmospheric air plasma treatment not only improved the hydrophilicity of the nanofibers but also enhanced their bio-functionality against human skin fibroblast cells. Therefore, atmospheric air plasma pre-treatment is recommended for the surface functionalization of gelatin nanofibers in skin tissue engineering applications.

Argon and Argon-Oxygen Plasma Surface Modification of Gelatin Nanofibers for Tissue Engineering Applications

Abolfazl Mozaffari et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that functionalization of gelatin nanofibers using plasma method can improve their biocompatibility. After plasma treatment, the surface morphology and diameter of nanofibers remained unchanged, but the surface roughness increased and the nanofibers became completely hydrophilic. Using plasma-treated gelatin nanofibers can increase the number of fibroblast cells.

Biocompatible graphene-embedded PCL/PGS-based nanofibrous scaffolds: A potential application for cardiac tissue regeneration

Aref Fakhrali et al.

Summary: Research on tissue engineering, particularly heart tissue engineering, is rapidly expanding. Investigated the properties of PCL/PGS and PCL/PGS/graphene nanofibrous scaffolds, finding that blending PGS with PCL enhances elongation and decreases elastic modulus. The addition of PGS reduces hydrophobicity of PCL nanofibers, and graphene balances hydrophilicity. Degradation rate of nanofibers increases in the presence of PGS.
