Radiosensitization to γ-Ray by Functional Inhibition of APOBEC3G

Ying Tong et al.

Summary: Knocking down APOBEC3G in tumor cells enhances their sensitivity to radiation therapy and limits radiation effects on normal tissue. The functional inhibition of APOBEC3G attenuates the activation of the DNA repair pathway, resulting in radiosensitization of cancer cells.

APOBEC3G rescues cells from the deleterious effects of DNA damage

Alexander Botvinnik et al.

Summary: hA3G, a member of the APOBEC family, acts as an anti-HIV-1 restriction factor and promotes cell survival in cancer cells after ionizing radiation and chemotherapy treatments. It enhances (DNA) double-strand breaks repair and is associated with proteins involved in nucleotide excision repair and homologous recombination DNA repair pathways. Inhibition of A3G may increase tumor cell sensitivity to genotoxic treatments.
