EvoImputer: An evolutionary approach for Missing Data Imputation and feature selection in the context of supervised learning

Shatha Awawdeh et al.

Summary: Missing data is a significant problem in knowledge extraction, and this paper proposes a new approach that uses evolutionary algorithms to evaluate the usefulness of data imputation for prediction model performance. The method selects the best subset of incomplete features that can enhance the learning process and maximize the prediction power. The proposed method outperforms traditional imputation methods and other evolutionary-based imputation methods in experiments.

Deep learning for missing value imputation of continuous data and the effect of data discretization

Wei-Chao Lin et al.

Summary: This study compares the performance of multilayer perceptron (MLP) and deep belief networks (DBN) in missing value imputation, with DBN performing the best. In addition, the research finds that when considering the discretization of continuous data, the choice of imputation algorithm is more important than the order in which the two steps are combined.

k-Nearest neighbors local linear regression for functional and missing data at random

Mustapha Rachdi et al.

Summary: The study combines the k-Nearest Neighbors method with the local linear estimation approach to propose a new estimator, LLE-kNN, for regression operators in the presence of functional regressors and randomly missing observations. The resulting estimator demonstrates advantages in terms of pointwise and almost complete consistencies and precise convergence rates. Numerical and practical data analysis support the feasibility and superiority of the LLE-kNN estimator over competitive estimators.

On Ignoring the Random Effects Assumption in Multilevel Models: Review, Critique, and Recommendations

John Antonakis et al.

Summary: This study examines the assumption that random effects are uncorrelated with regressors in multilevel models, highlighting the endogeneity problem that arises from violating this assumption. By focusing on two-level models and conducting large-scale simulations, the study suggests including cluster means of Level 1 explanatory variables as controls to address this issue, while also questioning the necessity of centering predictor variables. Furthermore, a review of 204 randomly selected articles from organizational science and psychology journals reveals that only a small proportion properly address the random effects assumption, emphasizing the need for practical recommendations to appropriately model multilevel data.
