Evaluation of favipiravir in the treatment of COVID-19 based on the real-world

Weishang Deng et al.

Summary: For mild-to-moderate COVID-19 patients, FVP significantly promotes viral clearance, reduces hospitalization duration, and helps lower the risk of severe disease outcomes. However, there is no significant benefit of FVP for severe patients, indicating caution is needed in treatment options.

Comparative Efficacy of Chinese Herbal Injections for Treating Severe Pneumonia: A Systematic Review and Bayesian Network Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Liqing Niu et al.

Summary: This study assessed the effectiveness of Chinese herbal injections (CHIs) in the treatment of severe pneumonia (SP) and ranked different treatment options using Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA). The results showed that combining CHIs such as Xuebijing injection (XBJ), Tanreqing injection (TRQ), Reduning injection (RDN), and Shenmai injection (SM) with conventional Western medicine (WM) significantly improved the clinical effective rate compared to WM alone. Among them, TRQ + WM ranked the highest in terms of clinical effective rate.

Integrative role of traditional and modern technologies to combat COVID-19

Mohammad Heiat et al.

Summary: Traditional and emerging approaches are both crucial for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of COVID-19. Traditional sciences are essential for preventive and supportive care of coronavirus infection, while modern technologies are beneficial in developing precise diagnosis and effective treatment methods. The integration of these sciences will enhance our efficiency in fighting the COVID-19 disease.

Dissecting the novel mechanism of reduning injection in treating Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) based on network pharmacology and experimental verification

Shanshan Jia et al.

Summary: RDNI, a patented Traditional Chinese medicine, can reduce lung damage, inhibit the overexpression of MAPKs, PKC, and p65 nuclear factor-κB, affect cytokine levels, reduce inflammation, and display antipyretic activity. Its underlying mechanisms may involve the modulation of cytokine levels and inflammation by regulating the expression of MAPKs, PKC, and p65 nuclear factor NF-κB.

The preventive effect of Xuebijing injection against cytokine storm for severe patients with COVID-19: A prospective randomized controlled trial

Zhijian Luo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Xuebijing injection can effectively suppress the cytokine storm in severe COVID-19 patients by reducing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-??????, increasing lymphocyte levels, and decreasing CRP levels. However, Xuebijing did not significantly reduce the 28-day mortality rate.

Comparative effectiveness and safety of 32 pharmacological interventions recommended by guidelines for coronavirus disease 2019: a systematic review and network meta-analysis combining 66 trials

Shan-Shan Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that traditional Chinese medicine and corticosteroids may reduce mortality and increase the cure rate in COVID-19 patients, with no increased risk of adverse events; however, high-dose chloroquine may increase mortality, and other antiviral agents like interferons could increase the risk of adverse events. The current evidence is generally uncertain with low quality, highlighting the need for further high-quality trials.
