Management of Patients with Uncomplicated Symptomatic Isolated Mesenteric Artery Dissection: a Multicentre Experience

Jinjian Sun et al.

Summary: This multicentre retrospective study investigated the characteristics, treatment options, and outcomes of isolated mesenteric artery dissection (IMAD) in three hospitals. The results showed that IMAD patients achieved good long-term survival and symptom relief regardless of the treatment. Conservative treatment had shorter hospital stays and lower hospital costs, while operative treatment had a higher rate of complete superior mesenteric artery remodelling.

Management of Spontaneous Isolated Mesenteric Artery Dissection: A Systematic Review

S. Acosta et al.

Summary: Isolated mesenteric artery dissection is mainly caused by factors such as male gender, hypertension, and smoking, and most patients can be treated conservatively, with surgery indicated in cases of peritonitis due to bowel infarction. The most common end-organ infarction in celiac artery dissections is splenic infarctions, which should be treated conservatively. The frequency of ruptured pseudoaneurysm in these dissections is very rare and endovascular therapy with covered stents may be considered for these patients.
