Spare parts inventory routing problem with transshipment and substitutions under stochastic demands

Fatima Ezzahra Achamrah et al.

Summary: This study investigates how to efficiently manage the inventory routing problem with stochastic demands and the utilization of replacement or pattern parts (PP) in a two-level spare parts supply chain. The findings underscore the importance of inventory management policies and the impact of spare part substitutes on overall supply chain performance.

A rolling horizon approach for a multi-stage stochastic fixed-charge transportation problem with transshipment

Rossana Cavagnini et al.

Summary: We study a fixed-charge transportation problem with stochastic and dynamic demand. Our proposed multi-stage mixed integer stochastic programming formulation proves that transshipment can provide significant cost savings. Computational studies demonstrate the effectiveness of our heuristic approach in providing efficient solutions in a short amount of time.

The joint replenishment problem: Optimal policy and exact evaluation method

Stefan Creemers et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method for evaluating stationary joint replenishment policies under compound Poisson demand. The method utilizes an embedded Markov chain to analyze the system state, allowing accurate analysis of instances that could only be evaluated using approximation methods before. Furthermore, the method is unaffected by the inclusion of nonzero lead times, backlog, and lost sales in the state space. The study also characterizes the optimal joint replenishment policy and develops a generalized greedy-optimal algorithm.

Solving inventory routing with transshipment and substitution under dynamic and stochastic demands using genetic algorithm and deep reinforcement learning

Fatima Ezzahra Achamrah et al.

Summary: This paper investigates a two-level supply chain model and proposes a new approach to tackle the dynamic and stochastic inventory routing problem. Test results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the current best results in the literature.

Efficient algorithms for the joint replenishment problem with minimum order quantities

Ana Muriel et al.

Summary: Suppliers often set minimum order quantities to ensure economic viability and achieve economies of scale. Buyers need to determine joint ordering intervals and replenishment policies to minimize system-wide costs and meet quantity restrictions. The study characterizes optimal inventory ordering strategies and costs, and examines the impact of various factors through computational analysis.

Integrated production-transshipment control policy for a two-location unreliable manufacturing system

Akrem Dhahri et al.

Summary: This study investigates a manufacturing system that allows transshipment between two failure-prone production facilities with different capacities. An integrated production-transshipment control policy is proposed to minimize the total cost. The parameters of the policy are optimized using a simulation-based approach. Sensitivity analysis is conducted to verify the robustness of the results. The comparative study shows that the proposed policy outperforms others in terms of cost.

Data-driven ordering and transshipment decisions for online retailers and logistics service providers

Lihong Cheng et al.

Summary: Emerging advanced technologies allow logistics service providers to offer supply chain services beyond just shipping, such as inventory management. This study investigates a preventive transshipment system led by a logistics service provider, where the provider serves as the decision-maker and provides optimal ordering and transshipment policies for online retailers. The results demonstrate that implementing this system can significantly increase the total profit for both the retailer and the logistics service provider.

Inventory Sharing and Demand-Side Underweighting

Hui Zhao et al.

Summary: This study explores how the opportunity to transshipment inventory influences decision makers' inventory decisions and the consequences for risk-pooling benefits in inventory sharing systems. The research identifies a persistent underweighting bias on the demand side, leading to underordering and inadequate inventory levels. Understanding and addressing this bias is crucial for maximizing the benefits of inventory sharing systems.

Assessing product availability in omnichannel retail networks in the presence of on-demand inventory transshipment and product substitution *

Shahab Derhami et al.

Summary: Retail networks utilize on-demand inventory transshipments to avoid lost sales and establish interconnected networks, estimating product availability under uncertain demand and customer substitution. The proposed model considers both in-stock and network availability, balancing transshipment costs and customer satisfaction.
