Analysis of a composite piezoelectric semiconductor cylindrical shell under the thermal loading

Zhen Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a simplified one-dimensional multi-field coupling model for a composite piezoelectric semiconductor cylindrical shell (CPCS) was established to investigate its electromechanical and piezotronic behaviors under a uniform temperature loading. The analysis included studying the tuning effect of the thermal loading, as well as the impacts of geometrical parameters and mechanical boundary conditions on the piezotronic behaviors of the CPCS structure. The numerical results revealed the sensitivity of carriers and electromechanical fields in the semiconductor layer of the CPCS structure to temperature changes, geometrical parameters, and mechanical boundary conditions, providing valuable insights for developing novel temperature-related or thermally-controlled piezotronic devices based on the proposed CPCS structures.

Small-scale effects on the piezopotential properties of tapered gallium nitride nanowires: The synergy between surface and flexoelectric effects

Jin Zhang

Summary: This paper comprehensively studied the piezopotential properties of tapered gallium nitride (GaN) nanowires using a multi-scale modelling technique, revealing that the material properties strongly depend on the position in the nanowires due to surface and flexoelectric effects. Small-scale effects were found to increase the potential difference generated in tapered nanowires, with surface effects dominating in nanowires with small half cone angles and flexoelectric effects becoming the major factor in nanowires with larger half cone angles.

Dispersion relations of anti-plane elastic waves in micro-scale one dimensional piezoelectric semiconductor phononic crystals with the consideration of interface effect

Xiao Guo et al.

Summary: This paper theoretically investigates the propagation properties of anti-plane elastic waves in a piezoelectric semiconductor layered periodic composites. It systematically discusses the influences of interface effects resulted from homo- and hetero-junctions on the dispersion relations of anti-plane elastic waves, finding that the junctions can enhance the width of band-gaps, especially for high-frequency short-wavelength waves, which is fundamental to the analysis and optimization of micro-scale energy harvesters.

Magnetically induced charge redistribution in the bending of a composite beam with flexoelectric semiconductor and piezomagnetic dielectric layers

Yilin Qu et al.

Summary: The study focuses on electromechanical fields in a thin composite beam with a flexoelectric semiconductor layer between two piezomagnetic dielectric layers under an applied magnetic field. A one-dimensional model is derived to analyze responses and coupling effects, revealing maximum coupling coefficient for a specific thickness ratio of the layers. This research is fundamental in the field of flexoelectronics involving magnetic fields.

Enhanced magnetoelectric response in nanostructures due to flexoelectric and flexomagnetic effects

Yang Shi et al.

Summary: This paper presents the constitutive modeling of magnetoelectric coupling in multiferroic nanocomposites induced by piezoelectric and piezomagnetic effects, as well as flexoelectric and flexomagnetic effects. The enhanced ME coupling via flexoeffect is highlighted, showing potential for significant ME coupling effects under certain conditions. The introduction of a new coupling mechanism based on flexo-coupling may lead to the development of high-performance ME nano-structures.

A convenient approach to tuning the local piezopotential of an extensional piezoelectric semiconductor fiber via composite structure design

Kai Fang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that utilizing a composite structure design can effectively tune the local piezopotential of a piezoelectric semiconductor (PS) fiber, improving its piezotronic performance. By artificially designing the material combination and geometry size of composite components, the properties of local potential barriers and wells along the fiber can be manipulated. This approach has great potential for applications in the field of piezotronics.

An analytical model for nonlinear magnetoelectric effect in laminated composites

Yang Shi et al.

Summary: This paper presents an analytical and explicit theoretical model for the nonlinear magnetoelectric effect in laminated composites, taking into account the multi-field coupled properties of magnetostrictive materials. Analytical solutions of nonlinear ME voltages in various modes are obtained, predicting that the frequency-multiplying behavior observed in the composites can be tuned by bias magnetic field. The optimal bias field for maximum linear voltage and zero nonlinear voltage is obtained.

On Rayleigh waves in a piezoelectric semiconductor thin film over an elastic half-space

Ru Tian et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the propagation characteristics of Rayleigh waves in surface acoustic wave devices composed of zinc oxide piezoelectric semiconductor thin films and diamond elastic half-space, analyzing their wave speed, dispersion curves, and attenuation. The study also explores the effects of steady-state carrier density, thin-film thickness, and biasing electric field on the maximum speed of Rayleigh waves and the interaction of different modes, providing theoretical guidance for the design of PSC surface acoustic wave devices.

Static bending and vibration analysis of piezoelectric semiconductor beams considering surface effects

Zhicheng Zhang et al.

Summary: By developing a 1D multi-field coupling model based on surface elasticity theory, the study finds that surface effects can stiffen piezoelectric semiconductor beams, increasing their natural frequencies. Particularly, a significant size-dependent property is observed when the cross-section radius is smaller than 400 nanometers.
