The relationship between dietary intakes and plasma concentrations of PUFA in school-age children from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) cohort

Genevieve Buckland et al.

Summary: The study assessed dietary intake of PUFA and their main food sources in children and associations with plasma proportions. Most n-3 and n-6 PUFA intakes had weak correlations with their respective plasma lipids, while DHA showed stronger correlation. The findings suggest that the FFQ can reasonably rank long-chain PUFA, particularly DHA, in this pediatric population. Public health initiatives are needed to address suboptimal n-6:n-3 PUFA ratio and low n-3 LC-PUFA intakes in UK school-age children.

Whole-fat dairy products do not adversely affect adiposity or cardiometabolic risk factors in children in the Milky Way Study: a double-blind randomized controlled pilot study

Summary: This study found that changing from whole-fat to reduced-fat dairy products decreases dairy fat intake, but does not lead to changes in markers of adiposity or cardiometabolic disease risk in healthy children.

Linoleic acid and the regulation of glucose homeostasis: A review of the evidence

Jakob S. Hamilton et al.

Summary: Linoleic acid, a common omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid in the Modern Western diet, has significantly increased in consumption and may be related to chronic metabolic diseases. The evidence suggests that factors such as sex, genetics, environment, and disease status can influence how linoleic acid affects insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism.
