The radiosensitizing effect of beta-Thujaplicin, a tropolone derivative inducing S-phase cell cycle arrest, in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma-derived cell lines

Markus Haas et al.

Summary: This study found that beta-Thujaplicin can enhance the sensitivity of HNSCC cell lines to radiotherapy and inhibit cell clonogenicity and migration.

SynergyFinder 3.0: an interactive analysis and consensus interpretation of multi-drug synergies across multiple samples

Aleksandr Ianevski et al.

Summary: SynergyFinder is a free web application that allows interactive analysis and visualization of multi-drug combination response data. The latest upgrade, SynergyFinder 3.0, introduces new features such as interactive multisample analysis of combination synergy, a novel consensus synergy score, and improved outlier detection functionality. These improvements enable robust identification of consistent combinatorial synergies.

An analysis of distant metastasis cases from HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma

Faris F. Brkic et al.

Summary: Some patients with HPV-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma develop distant metastasis and face dire prognosis. Patients treated with primary chemoradiotherapy had a significantly better outcome in terms of survival. However, surgical resection after initial diagnosis was associated with a shorter survival time for patients with distant metastasis, partly due to delayed adjuvant therapy caused by surgical site complications. Immediate management of surgical site complications and systemic treatment after initial diagnosis may benefit the clinical outcome of HPV-associated distant metastases. Further studies are needed for validation of these results.

Potential association of the prognostic index and survival in patients with p16-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma

Faris F. Brkic et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of a newly proposed prognostic index (PI) in patients with p16-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Low PI was associated with better overall survival and disease-free survival.
