A study of 24 cases of salivary gland carcinoma with distant metastasis

Takashi Masui et al.

Summary: Salivary gland carcinoma is a rare disease of the head and neck that often presents with distant metastases. Patients with distant metastases have a poor prognosis, with no significant factors influencing long-term outcomes after the development of metastases. Further research in larger sample sizes and standardized treatment methods may be needed in the future.

Matrix metalloproteinase-7,-8,-9,-15, and-25 in minor salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma

Hanna Hametoja et al.

Summary: In this study on adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), the expression of MMP-9 in pseudocysts and peritumoural inflammatory cells was found to be associated with better survival and fewer treatment failures. High tumoural MMP-7 and-25 were linked to better survival, while high tumoural MMP-15 was associated with poorer survival and high tumoural MMP-9 with advanced stage and regional recurrences. Tumour cells did not show MMP-8 immunopositivity. These results suggest potential roles for MMPs in ACC carcinogenesis and prognosis.
