Lithium intoxication induced pyroptosis via ROS/NF-κB/NLRP3 inflammasome regulatory networks in kidney of mice

Hongyuan Jing et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism of renal inflammatory reaction induced by excessive intake of lithium. The results showed that high concentrations of lithium caused inflammatory damage and apoptosis in kidney tissue cells, as well as reduced antioxidant enzyme capacity and increased production of reactive oxygen species. Moreover, excessive lithium activated the NF-kappa B signaling pathway and NLRP3 inflammasome, resulting in the activation of inflammatory factors.

Diosmetin alleviates cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury through Keap1-mediated Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway activation and NLRP3 inflammasome inhibition

Min Shi et al.

Summary: Diosmetin has a protective effect on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. It activates the Keap1-mediated Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway and inhibits the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway, thereby alleviating cell death, oxidative stress, and inflammation caused by cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Melamine induced changes in histopathology of the main organs and transcriptional levels of MAPK signaling genes in kidneys of female mice

Wei Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that melamine intake may have adverse effects on the ovarian, hepatic, and renal tissues in female mice, with up-regulation of ERK1 and p38 mRNA expressions in the kidneys. This suggests that ERK1 and p38 transcriptional levels in the kidney could be considered as candidate targets for lower-dose melamine toxicity, providing potential new insights for the diagnosis and prevention of melamine damage.

Tanshinone IIA prevents acetaminophen-induced nephrotoxicity through the activation of the Nrf2-Mrp2/4 pathway in mice

Xiqian Zhang et al.

Summary: The preventative effect of Tan IIA on APAP-induced nephrotoxicity was investigated in this study. Tan IIA reduced APAP-induced nephrotoxicity by promoting the efflux of the toxic intermediate metabolite NAPQI and upregulating the Nrf2-MRP2/4 pathway in the kidney.

Hydrogen-rich and hyperoxygenate saline inhibits lipopolysaccharide-induced lung injury through mediating NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathway in C57BL/6 mice

Yingying Fan et al.

Summary: The combination therapy of hydrogen and oxygen shows a superior protective effect on acute lung injury, with hydrogen playing a more important role in inflammatory and anti-apoptosis mechanisms, while oxygen improving hypoxia in the body.

Regulation of mitophagy through HIF-1α/miR-140-5p/PARKIN axis in acute kidney injury

Qin Zhang et al.

Summary: Mitophagy regulation in acute kidney injury (AKI) was investigated in this study. The results showed that ischemic kidney injury activated mitophagy, and the miR-140-5p/PARKIN axis played a regulatory role in this process. HIF-1α bound to the miR-140-5p promoter, downregulating its expression and promoting mitophagy under hypoxic conditions.

Acute Kidney Injury in COVID-19

Marta Glowacka et al.

Summary: COVID-19, primarily known as a respiratory illness, can also target the kidneys through the ACE2 receptor, leading to acute kidney injury. The development of AKI in COVID-19 patients is strongly associated with higher mortality, not only due to direct invasion of renal cells by the virus, but also involving mechanisms like hypovolemia and cytokine storm.

p53 Deacetylation Alleviates Sepsis-Induced Acute Kidney Injury by Promoting Autophagy

Maomao Sun et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that upregulation of autophagy can attenuate sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (SAKI). The tumor suppressor protein p53 has been identified as a regulator of autophagy in various forms of acute kidney injury. Acetylation of p53 exacerbates AKI, but deacetylation can promote RTEC autophagy and alleviate SAKI.

Natural compounds modulate the autophagy with potential implication of stroke

Anil Ahsan et al.

Summary: Stroke is a major cause of death and disability, with its complex pathological mechanisms posing challenges to effective therapy. Autophagy plays a critical role in cellular homeostasis and survival, with both protective and harmful effects on neuronal cells during ischemic injury. Naturally derived compounds have been found to modulate autophagy and provide neuroprotection against stroke, suggesting potential applications in treatment strategies.
