Effect of Electron and Hole Injection on Spin Polarization in Bis-(8-hydroxyquinoline) Zinc Molecule

Huimin Yuan et al.

Summary: The spintronic properties of bis-(8-hydroxyquinoline) zinc (Znq(2)) molecule upon electron and hole injection have been theoretically studied using density-functional theory calculations. The study found that both the injected excess electrons and holes are highly spin polarized in Znq(2), leading to an approximately linearly increased magnetic moments with the amount of the charge injected. Furthermore, the d(0) ferromagnetism observed in the charge-injected Znq(2) molecule shows great promise for organic spintronic devices.
