Assessment of heavy metal accumulations and health risk potentials in tomatoes grown in the discharge area of a municipal wastewater treatment plant

E. Isil Arslan Topal et al.

Summary: Heavy metals were detected in organs of tomatoes grown in the discharge area of effluents, with the highest concentrations found in roots followed by leaves, stems, and fruits. The health risk potentials of these heavy metals in tomatoes consumed by humans were investigated, highlighting potential risks for male, female, and children, with different exposure doses and carcinogenic risks identified.

Enhanced sequestration of heavy metals from aqueous solution on polyacrylamide grafted with cell@Fe3O4 nanocomposite

Rais Ahmad et al.

Summary: In this study, a poly(acrylamide)-grafted cell@Fe3O4 (PAC@Fe3O4) nanocomposite was synthesized, and its adsorption performance for Pb(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) in wastewater was investigated. The research found that the adsorption efficiency was pH-dependent, with the highest removal occurring at high pH levels and at pH 5 for all three metal ions. The maximum adsorption capacities were determined to be 313.02 mg g(-1) for Pb(II), 219.33 mg g(-1) for Ni(II), and 210.71 mg g(-1) for Cu(II). Kinetic analysis revealed that the adsorption of metal ions followed second-order kinetics, with chemical adsorption as the rate-limiting step. The adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous.

Simultaneous adsorption of chromium and acidic dye from leather tannery model wastewater using a novel modified nanoclay

M. Golghasemi Sorkhabi et al.

Summary: Local nano-clay modified by surfactant was effectively used for simultaneous removal of Cr3+ and acidic dye from model tannery wastewater, with maximum adsorption capacities of 193.1390 mg/g and 144.1782 mg/g, respectively. The study showed that the simultaneous adsorption of contaminants followed the pseudo-second-order model, and the adsorption data fitting isotherm models indicated synergistic and antagonistic adsorptions in binary solutions.

Removal of Heavy Metal Ions from One- and Two-Component Solutions via Adsorption on N-Doped Activated Carbon

Justyna Kazmierczak-Razna et al.

Summary: This study found that activated carbons modified with nitrogen functional groups exhibit a higher capacity for heavy metal ion adsorption, with adsorption increasing with solution concentration and contact time. The optimal pH for adsorption was determined to be 8.0 for Cu(II) and 6.0 for Zn(II), with Langmuir isotherm providing a better fit to the experimental data than the Freundlich isotherm. The kinetic data was better described by the pseudo-second order model.
