Investigation of the production of pyrolytic bio-oil from water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) in a fixed bed reactor using pyrolysis process

Iwekumo Wauton et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of pyrolysis parameters on the yield of pyrolytic bio-oil in the thermal degradation of water hyacinth using a fixed bed reactor. The findings showed that the maximum bio-oil yield of 44.5 wt % was achieved at a reactor temperature of 450 degrees C, biomass particle size of 0.6 mm, and nitrogen gas flow rate of 100 cm(3)/min. GC-MS analysis of the bio-oil revealed the presence of phenols, alcohols, carboxylic acids, ketones, alkenes, alkanes, aldehydes, and aromatics, indicating the potential of water hyacinth pyrolysis as a viable route for producing renewable fuels and chemicals and addressing the issue of its invasion in inland freshwater systems.

CHARACTERIZATION AND PYROLYSIS OF POST-CONSUMER LEATHER SHOE WASTE FOR THE RECOVERY OF VALUABLE CHEMICALS

Melissa Lisa Van Rensburg et al.

Summary: The majority of post-consumer leather footwear currently ends up in landfills, but a study shows that it can be pyrolyzed for waste recovery. Experimental results indicate that pyrolysis within the range of 550-650 degrees Celsius can maximize the liquid fraction, which has potential applications in energy or fuel.
