Recent Developments in the Application of Bio-Waste-Derived Adsorbents for the Removal of Methylene Blue from Wastewater: A Review

Hamad Noori Hamad et al.

Summary: In recent years, various industries have released wastewater with high concentrations of dyes directly into the ecological system, causing severe pollution. Activated carbon has been proven to be an efficient technology for removing dyes from wastewater, but its high cost has prompted researchers to explore alternative, more economical adsorbents derived from bio-waste. This review critically evaluates the characteristics of bio-waste-derived adsorbents, the parameters influencing their performance, and discusses regeneration processes, economic challenges, and the utilization of post-sorption materials.

Removal of Cr(VI) from Wastewater Using Graphene Oxide Chitosan Microspheres Modified with α-FeO(OH)

Yunquan Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, alpha-FeO(OH)/GOCS microspheres were prepared and used for the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions. The effects of various factors on the adsorption process were investigated, and it was found that pH, mass and volume ratio, coexisting ions, time, temperature, and initial concentration of Cr(VI) all influenced the removal efficiency. The equilibrium adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) was found to be 24.16 mg/g, and the removal rate was 97.69% under specific experimental conditions. The adsorption process followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and was spontaneous and endothermic. No secondary pollution of Fe was observed during the Cr(VI) adsorption process.

Enhanced adsorption of heavy metals in groundwater using sand columns enriched with graphene oxide: Lab-scale experiments and process modeling

Mona Abbasi et al.

Summary: In this study, sand enriched with graphene oxide (GO) was used to prevent heavy metals migration to groundwater. Batch experiments showed different adsorption capacities of GO for various heavy metals, with the nonlinear Freundlich model fitting the equilibrium reactions. The presence of GO enhanced the adsorption capacity of the sand column for heavy metals, and the adsorption behavior of GO in a mixture of metals was different from single components. Kinetic models successfully predicted the breakthrough curves of heavy metals in the reactive medium.
