The fate of antibiotic resistance genes in cow manure composting: shaped by temperature-controlled composting stages

Muhammad Fahad Sardar et al.

Summary: This study conducted temperature controlled aerobic composting and found that antibiotic resistance genes significantly decreased in the initial phase but increased in the later stages. The composting properties, especially temperature, had a significant impact on bacterial community and the abundance of antibiotic resistance genes.

The addition of bean curd dreg improved the quality of mixed cow manure and corn stalk composting: enhancing the maturity and improving the micro-ecological environment

Bing Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of bean curd dreg (BCD) in composting and found that BCD can improve compost maturity, increase humus content, and positively impact bacteria community structure. Through high-throughput sequencing and PICRUSt analysis, it was shown that BCD application improved Actinomycetes abundance and lowered denitrifying bacteria abundance. Redundancy analysis (RDA) results also indicated significant discrepancies in microbial community structure, with BCD-treated compost samples exhibiting more noticeable changes in dominant populations. Hence, BCD is a promising composting modifier that enhances compost fertility.

Assessing Biotic and Abiotic Interactions of Microorganisms in Amazonia through Co-Occurrence Networks and DNA Metabarcoding

Camila Duarte Ritter et al.

Summary: The study utilized DNA metabarcoding data to explore co-occurrence patterns of microorganisms in different Amazonian habitats, revealing that most operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were bacteria with various metabolism modes, and a high frequency of saprotrophic fungi. Organic carbon and base saturation indices were important in Amazonian co-occurrence networks, while other soil properties played a role in co-exclusion. Different habitats showed similar network properties with variations in modularity, likely due to flooding events.
