Recent developments on bismuth oxyhalides (BiOX; X = Cl, Br, I) based ternary nanocomposite photocatalysts for environmental applications

Malathi Arumugam et al.

Summary: The translation emphasizes on the development and application of bismuth oxyhalides (BiOX) for photocatalytic treatment of organic pollutants in wastewater. While BiOX shows good absorption of solar light, the rapid recombination rate of photogenerated charge carriers limits its practical application. To overcome this issue, the development of BiOX-based ternary nanocomposites has received significant attention.

Nickel decorated manganese oxynitride over graphene nanosheets as highly efficient visible light driven photocatalysts for acetylsalicylic acid degradation

Harshavardhan Mohan et al.

Summary: Nickel-decorated manganese oxynitride/graphene nanosheet nanocomposites were prepared and demonstrated as efficient photocatalysts for the degradation of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) under visible light. The nanocomposites showed higher efficiency and structural stability compared to manganese oxide (MnO) and manganese oxynitride (MnON) nanoparticles, attributed to their larger specific surface area and smaller band gap. Additionally, the nanocomposite exhibited insignificant cytotoxicity, making it a promising candidate for remediation of ASA-contaminated water.

Enhanced visible light-driven photocatalysis of iron-oxide/titania composite: Norfloxacin degradation mechanism and toxicity study

Harshavardhan Mohan et al.

Summary: A simulated visible light-mediated iron oxide-titania nanocomposite was utilized for the photocatalytic degradation of the antibiotic norfloxacin. Structural characterization was conducted using various techniques, revealing that the nanocomposites with a 1:4 ratio of iron oxide doped titania exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. The study confirmed complete degradation of NFN without residual intermediates and demonstrated efficient reusability of the photocatalyst for multiple cycles.

Highly efficient visible light driven photocatalytic activity of zinc/ferrite: Carbamazepine degradation, mechanism and toxicity assessment

Harshavardhan Mohan et al.

Summary: In this study, spherical zinc ferrite nanoparticles were prepared with uniform size and a band gap suitable for visible light absorption. Zinc doping enhanced the absorption of visible light and improved the separation of photogenerated carriers, resulting in effective photocatalytic degradation of CBZ. The material showed high removal efficiency and a pseudo first-order kinetics with a rate constant of 0.0367 min(-1). In-vitro and in-vivo toxicity of the nanoparticles were also examined for environmental implications.
