Co-exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and phthalates and their associations with oxidative stress damage in school children from South China

Yingxin Yu et al.

Summary: The study found variations in the concentrations of OH-PAHs and mPAEs in urine based on geographical location, and a positive correlation between 8-OHdG and these substances. OH-PAHs were found to contribute more to oxidative DNA damage when present alongside mPAFs. Risk assessment indicated that while risks from PAHs may be negligible, a significant percentage of school children may face health risks from PAEs, particularly diethylhexyl phthalate.

Exposure to phthalates and bisphenol analogues among childbearing-aged women in Korea: Influencing factors and potential health risks

Sori Mok et al.

Summary: A study conducted exposure assessment of phthalates and bisphenol analogues (BPs) in childbearing-aged women in Korea, finding that DEHP metabolites and BPA were the dominant compounds, with Bisphenol S (BPS) also commonly detected. Total concentrations of phthalate metabolites and BPs were found to range from 3.42 to 3570 (GM: 45.6) ng/mL.

Co-exposure and health risks of parabens, bisphenols, triclosan, phthalate metabolites and hydroxyl polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons based on simultaneous detection in urine samples from guangzhou, south China

Xiaojing Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the detection frequencies for OH-PAHs and mPAEs in urine samples exceeded 90%, with mPAEs showing the highest concentrations, followed by OH-PAHs and triclosan. The main PAHs are mainly exposed to humans through inhalation, while chemicals added to personal care products are mainly exposed to humans through oral intake and dermal contact. Risk assessments based on Monte Carlo simulation indicated that approximately 30% of the subjects suffered non-carcinogenic risks from mPAEs and OHPAHs, with mPAEs accounting for 89% of the total risk.

Summary: Phthalates are synthetic chemicals commonly used as plasticizers and solvents. Human exposure to phthalates can lead to various diseases. Monitoring phthalate metabolites in human matrices can help assess health risks, with factors like inhalation, dietary ingestion, and dermal absorption influencing exposure levels.
