Nitrogenated CQD decorated ZnO nanorods towards rapid photodegradation of rhodamine B: A combined experimental and theoretical approach

Sujoy Kumar Mandal et al.

Summary: The hybridization of nonmetal nitrogen-doped carbon dots with ZnO nanorods led to improved photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B under UV irradiation. The ZnO/NCQD system demonstrated higher performance and stability, attributed to the generation of photoinduced electron-hole pairs at the heterojunction between the two components.

Carbon quantum dots-TiO2 nanocomposite as an efficient photocatalyst for the photodegradation of aromatic ring-containing mixed VOCs: An experimental and DFT studies of adsorption and electronic structure of the interface

Asad Mahmood et al.

Summary: In this work, TiO2 nanoparticles decorated with carbon quantum dots were developed and optimized for the photocatalytic oxidation of aromatic ring containing gas-phase mixed volatile organic compounds. The nanocomposite exhibited enhanced photocatalytic performance, especially in the visible region, attributed to the introduction of new energy states around the Fermi level at the interface, facilitating charge separation and improved conductivity. The improved efficiency can be explained by better light harvesting capability within the UV-vis region and enhanced adsorption capability.

Modulating photon harvesting through dynamic non-covalent interactions for enhanced photochemical CO2 reduction

Shao-Hai Li et al.

Summary: A novel pseudo-supramolecular assembly is developed by conjugating ultra-small nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots with polypyridyl ruthenium, enhancing the photochemical conversion of CO2 to CO. The reversible self-assembly driven by dynamic non-covalent interactions led to superior photosensitized CO2 reduction performance, demonstrating potential for promising artificial light-harvesting systems using metal complex-based systems for photoredox-catalyzed reactions.

Photoinduced synthesis of green photocatalyst Fe3O4/BiOBr/CQDs derived from corncob biomass for carbamazepine degradation: The role of selectively more CQDs decoration and Z-scheme structure

Xiaoyun Xie et al.

Summary: A green and efficient photocatalyst Fe3O4/BiOBr/CQDs was successfully fabricated via photoinduced method for the removal of emerging pollutants, especially CBZ. The enhanced visible light absorption and photogenerated charge transfer efficiency, along with the Z-scheme structure constructed by biomass CQDs, contributes to the high photocatalytic activity of the Fe3O4/BiOBr/CQDs catalyst. This research provides a promising potential for the future application of Fe3O4/BiOBr/CQDs in water pollutant treatment.

Facile preparation of carbon quantum dots/TiO2 composites at room temperature with improved visible-light photocatalytic activity

Jingjie Zhang et al.

Summary: A facile and energy-efficient impregnation method using coal tar pitch as natural CQDs was proposed for the preparation of effective CQDs/TiO2 composite photocatalysts at room temperature. The composites show significantly improved photodegradation performance of rhodamine B under visible-light irradiation, with the degradation rate constant 43.7-fold higher than pure TiO2 at the optimum CQDs content. The enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to improved absorption ability of visible light, accelerated charge carrier separation/transfer, and reduced recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs through successful coupling between TiO2 and CQDs.
