Profiling steroid and thyroid hormones with hair analysis in a cohort of women aged 25 to 45 years old

Feng-Jiao Peng et al.

Summary: In this study, a method for analyzing multiple endogenous hormones in human hair was developed and validated. The method allowed the detection of 32 hormones from different chemical classes and established complete reference intervals. Correlations between certain hormone concentrations in hair were found. This method is of significance for better identifying endocrine disorders.

Characterizing spatiotemporal variations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Taihu Lake, China

Aili Li et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the concentration distribution of 20 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in water samples collected from Taihu Lake. The results showed seasonal and spatial variations in the concentrations, with higher concentrations of 2-ring PAHs in warm seasons and stable concentrations of higher-ring PAHs across seasons. The distribution patterns were mainly influenced by ambient temperature and water recharge from the Yangtze River during cold seasons. Additionally, the literature review revealed that PAH concentrations in water bodies vary widely, suggesting the importance of local factors.

Exposure to benzo(a)pyrene from juvenile period to peripubertal impairs male reproductive parameters in adult rats

Barbara Campos Jorge et al.

Summary: BaP exposure during the prepubertal period negatively impacted the reproductive parameters in adult male rats, leading to compromised copulatory behavior, reduced sperm quality and quantity, and histopathological changes in testicular tissue. A comprehensive risk assessment of prepubertal BaP exposure is necessary to understand its long-term effects on male reproductive health.
