Trace gas emissions from municipal solid waste landfills: A review

Zhenhan Duan et al.

Summary: This paper reviews trace gas emissions from municipal solid waste landfills, focusing on their origin, sampling and analytical techniques, quantitative emission measurement techniques, concentration and surface emission rates of common trace compounds, and environmental and health concerns. Different chemical groups dominate different waste decomposition stages, and different techniques may lead to varying results in quantifying trace gas emissions. Further studies are needed to fully understand the adverse effects of trace gas emissions and assess their environmental impacts as well as health risks.

Air Quality Assessment in the Central Mediterranean Sea (Tyrrhenian Sea): Anthropic Impact and Miscellaneous Natural Sources, including Volcanic Contribution, on the Budget of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

Francesca Vichi et al.

Summary: The results of air pollution assessment during a 2017 cruise in the Tyrrhenian Sea were reported, where VOCs, OVOCs, and pollutants like nitrogen oxides, ozone, and sulfur dioxide were monitored. The analysis showed differences in the distribution of organic compounds between sites with anthropic impact and remote sites, as well as the influence of natural sources like volcanoes on trace gases levels. Underwater emissions near specific islands in the area were observed to impact pH levels and contain diagnostic of vent activity.

Cross-correlations of Biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds (BVOC) emissions typify different phenological stages and stressful events in a Mediterranean Sorghum plantation

Antonio Manco et al.

Summary: This study conducted continuous measurements of BVOC fluxes in a grain sorghum plantation in Southern Europe throughout a growing season. The results showed distinct patterns of BVOC emissions correlated with sorghum growth stages, with different mixtures emitted at different stages. The application of Self-Organizing Maps also differentiated between stressful events such as plant lodging and harvest cutting based on BVOC emissions.
