Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria Alleviate High Salinity Impact on the Halophyte Suaeda fruticosa by Modulating Antioxidant Defense and Soil Biological Activity

Rabaa Hidri et al.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) on the halophyte Suaeda fruticosa. The findings showed that the inoculation of PGPR increased biomass, reduced ion accumulation, and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity in the plants. Additionally, PGPR also enhanced soil enzyme activity and nutrient uptake in the presence of salt stress. These results highlight the potential of PGPR as a biological solution for improving plant growth and soil health under salt stress conditions.

Identification and Characterization of Wheat Germplasm for Salt Tolerance

Xiaoyan Quan et al.

Summary: Salinity is a major constraint to wheat production globally. Research using a diverse range of wheat genotypes identified 12 salt-tolerant genotypes, which showed increased accumulation of osmotic substances, efficient use of soluble sugars, lower Na+/K+ ratio, and a more efficient antioxidative system under salt stress. These genotypes were able to maintain stable osmotic potential, ion balance, and provide more resources for root growth, suggesting potential for developing new salt-tolerant wheat cultivars and understanding genetic mechanisms of salt tolerance in wheat.

Mining the rhizosphere of halophytic rangeland plants for halotolerant bacteria to improve growth and yield of salinity-stressed wheat

Alireza Amini Hajiabadi et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of three halotolerant rhizobacterial isolates on wheat plants irrigated with saline water were investigated. The isolates significantly improved biochemical, morphological, and physiological attributes of wheat, aiding the plant to tolerate salinity stress. Key factors in increasing reproductive performance of wheat included bacterial auxin and plant K content.

Salinity Stress in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in the Changing Climate: Adaptation and Management Strategies

Ayman EL Sabagh et al.

Summary: Salinity stress poses a serious threat to wheat production globally by negatively affecting growth and development, leading to diminished grain yield and quality. Wheat plants utilize various mechanisms to adapt to salinity stress and adaptation strategies have been developed to minimize its deleterious effects and ensure sustainable wheat production.
