Anomaly detection in long-term tunnel deformation monitoring

Kristof Maes et al.

Summary: This paper explores the use of novelty detection algorithms for long-term tunnel monitoring projects, using the Waasland tunnel in Antwerp as a case study. The study demonstrates that principal component analysis enables the identification of minor changes in tunnel response, embedding it in an early detection warning system. Numerical analysis based on simulation data shows that this approach requires a sufficiently long training period to distinguish between regular deviations and anomalies in tunnel response.

A data-driven approach for drive-by damage detection in bridges considering the influence of temperature change

Robert Corbally et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new data-driven approach for drive-by monitoring of bridge condition using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The ANN is trained to predict bridge behavior based on acceleration measurements from a passing vehicle. The response at the tire-pavement contact point is inferred and used as the primary input to the ANN, along with vehicle speed. The proposed algorithm demonstrates improved performance in detecting bridge cracking at different speeds, pavement conditions, and temperature variations compared to traditional methods, making it a suitable approach for long term bridge condition monitoring.

A cointegration-based approach for automatic anomalies detection in large-scale structures

Simone Turrisi et al.

Summary: In recent years, the use of cointegration as a technique to remove confounding influences in structural health monitoring applications has been introduced. This paper provides an in-depth review of using cointegration as a damage detection strategy on real-world structures, specifically demonstrated on the steel roof of the G. Meazza stadium in Milan. The cointegration-based method proves effective in identifying anomalies or modifications in the structure in a clear and timely manner.

Prediction error of Johansen cointegration residuals for structural health monitoring

Mohsen Mousavi et al.

Summary: A novel method for structural health monitoring under environmental and operational variations is proposed, utilizing RNN to predict the future CI residuals. The method involves signal decomposition, training the RNN, and using prediction errors as damage sensitive features, demonstrating successful monitoring of structural damage even in the presence of non-linear relationships among frequency signals.

Structural damage identification by a cross modal energy sensitivity based mode subset selection strategy

Mingqiang Xu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a strategy specialized for modal energy (ME) based methods to select the best mode subset prior to damage identification, using cross modal energy (CME) sensitivity. The proposed method improves the performance of the CMCM system by eliminating redundant equations, as shown in numerical and experimental studies.

Damage detection in railway bridges using traffic-induced dynamic responses

Andreia Meixedo et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an automatic data-driven method for detecting damage in railway bridges based on traffic-induced dynamic responses, which extracts damage-sensitive features and utilizes the magnitude of loading to enhance sensitivity to small structural changes. Experimental validation shows that the method is highly sensitive to early damage detection and robust to false detections.
