On ΔJ characterization of elastic-plastic crack-tip fields under fatigue loading conditions

Meiling Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, the applicability of the delta J-integral under the Masing postulate was computationally investigated. The results confirm that delta J has a more severe path-dependency than the delta J-integral under incremental plasticity. Additionally, it was found that the stress range field can be characterized by delta J, but not the strain field under fatigue loading. The delta J dominant zone is much smaller than the HRR zone and decreases further with applied loading.

Characterization of fatigue crack growth by cyclic material forces

Jad Khodor et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new approach to characterize fatigue crack growth at small strain elastoplasticity by cyclic material forces and cyclic configurational forces. The balance of cyclic energy momentum is derived using the cyclic free energy instead of the free energy in the theoretical framework. Numerically, cyclic nodal material forces are calculated using the weak form of the balance of cyclic energy momentum, and the results are validated by comparing them to experimental data.
